When my daughter was tiny
I told her that
when you find a stone on the beach
cut through with a hole
it’s a hag-stone

Used by a witch to cast a spell
and the power of that women’s magic
burnt a hole clean through the rock

And it is magic
like the way you can smell the sky is cloudless
like the lines the sea draws on the sand
